Barn Swallow is a very small bitd.
What's so surprising in this bird is that it flies from Argentina to California during February /March ....a distance of 8300km ..more surprisingly it flies only over oceans and not over land.. this small bird returns to Argentina back in october/November .....again ...travelling 8300km....which means totally 16600km over ocean. ...it holds a stick in its beak and flies such a long dstance with stick in beak....whenever it wants food or rest, it drops the stick on the ocean water.....sits on it.....rests.....picks up fish or insects from water and resumes jouney.....After breeding, the parent and young ones fly the same way with stick in beak....Amazing idea ....to travel 16600km just with a piece of stick....what a confident bird....
