What is so special about turmeric?

A recent survey revealed less cancer statistics in South India compared to other countries.  We use lot of turmeric wh contains curcumin, an anti cancer agent. Our ancestors have used turmeric with salt.  Curcumin with salt forms sodium salt of curcumate wh facilitates absorption of curcumin .Hence in our food preparations its good to add turmeric and salt together. Prep like mor kuzhambu are thus good and should be taken once a week.
